PMP Sample Questions are available on umpteen websites. Many of these websites provide both paid & free questions. But most of the websites provide only free questions. This blog is not of one of them – it does not have any PMP certification sample questions. Rather, in this blog post, I have compiled a list of reliable sources of free PMP sample questions.

I have written this post so that you do not have to randomly search for free PMP exam sample questions. I have compiled a few websites, which provide free questions. Even though I have carefully chosen these websites,  you must use your discretion while doing questions from these sources.

There is an old proverb that says “There’s no such thing as free lunch”. So, how could there be free PMP sample questions? It is true that there are no free lunches. We will discuss more about that later. Meanwhile, let us relish what is freely available – let us take a look at free PMP certification sample questions.

Note: All these PMP Tests are based on the PMBOK Guide 5th edition.

February 2016 Update: PMI used to have an eReads section on their website. Access to eReads was free for PMI members. It contained digital copies of many popular PMP books, including digital edition of Christopher Scordo’s book that had about 1000 PMP exam sample questions. These questions were considered to be the Gold Standard for the exam. Unfortunately PMI has taken off eReads after January 2016. But, if you want, you can either buy Christopher Scordo’s book or buy Christopher Scordo’s PMP Exam Simulator for those questions. I would definitely recommend that you buy one of them. You can read my article on Best PMP Exam Simulator for the comparative review of Scordo’s simulator with 5 other popular simulators.

Are Free Questions Reliable?

The Internet is a great source of free content, including free PMP sample questions. If you search on “PMP exam sample questions” or something similar, you will find hundreds of websites providing free questions. But only few of these websites are credible. The quality of PMP sample questions present in most these websites is, at best, questionable.

Following is a short list of reasons why most of the free websites are not good:

  • The PMP exam has evolved over the years and it keeps on evolving. Every few years the PMP exam changes. It changed in January 2016 and it will again change after PMBOK Guide 6th edition is released. It is only natural that the sample questions should also change as the exam changes. However, most of the free websites are rarely updated. Many of these websites have questions based on older exam content or older edition of the PMBOK Guide.
  • Many websites have incorrect & dubious questions and/or answers. The content is either not reviewed or only superficially reviewed before being published.
  • Many websites do not provide any explanation for the answer.

One should be very careful while picking free stuff from the Internet. I have compiled the above list so that you can avoid dubious websites.

Do not randomly pick Free PMP sample questions from the Internet. It is one of the main reasons for failing in the PMP exam.

PMP Exam Prep Strategy

You need to practice about 2000 questions to pass the Exam. There are about 3500 free PMP Exam Questions available on the websites mentioned above. The actual number of questions will depend upon your confidence level, but it is safe to say you would not need more than 3500 questions.

Hmm…So it means free lunch is really available!

No. It means that only appetizer is available free of cost. You still need to buy your lunch.

The free PMP exam sample questions available in these websites give you a good precursor to the exam. But the real value lies in paid tests. The free questions are good to begin your PMP preparation. However, in my opinion, you should spend some money on a good paid simulator to crack the exam in first attempt. I have discussed the benefits of a paid simulator in the article titled 13 Reasons to Invest in Paid PMP Practice Exam.

A good exam prep strategy is to practice questions from both free and paid sources. You can read my article titled Best Way to Determine PMP Exam Passing Score to understand how free and paid tests should be used together.

Which Free Sources Should You Choose?

Generally speaking, free tests from the companies selling paid content are better. These companies publish free content (questions) in order to build and maintain their reputation. If they do not provide useful and reliable content, no one will buy their paid content. Most reputed companies rigorously review their content before publishing it. They also regularly update the content based on the student’s feedback.

The above list of websites have good & reliable questions. Having said that, you should check the websites yourself. While doing your study or after completing your preliminary study, you should try out a few (10-15) questions from these websites. You should check if the questions & answers conform to the PMBOK Guide. You should also check if the websites have given proper explanations and PMBOK Guide references (wherever required). By doing this exercise, you would know which websites are good and which are not. If you find a website useful and reliable, then you should practice the entire questions set from it.

PMP Exam Sample Questions From Your Training Provider

You should check the reliability of questions provided by your training provider. You can check it from the other students. You can also review the questions yourself. If you are confident about the quality of questions, then there is no need to buy another question set. In past, I have noticed that even some PMI REPs provide below par Questions.

Good luck to all PMP aspirants. Please leave a comment if you know about a credible source of Free PMP certification sample questions. I will take a look at it.

  1. Need to know the level of question meets the PMI PMP Standard? It looks very interesting and informative questions. Please help.

  2. Hi Praveen,

first of all, very nice website. I will visite it more often from now. :)

Regarding the free sample questions you did compile a very nice selection there; congrats.

May be here is another link you may add to your selection:

You have to be carefull by select your free sample questions, because quality may vary a lot and often is not as good as it should be.

I would like to underline the suggestion Praveen allready made:
If you could spend some more dollars to your study for PMP certification, you HAVE TO invest in a paid online exam simulator.
It will be worth it, trust me.

I guess, the exam simulator from Cornelius Fichtner (well known in this business!) would no bad choice at all.

I wish you all the best for your studing and hopefully you earn pmp at your first try!

  3. Hi Praveen,

Do you suggest to take the membership with Udemy as I have seen some bad reviews about this organisation?

  4. Hi Rajni,

Udemy does not create or courses – it is an aggregator. Udemy is just a platform to host courses. The courses are created by individual instructors of training companies. So, out of many courses only few are good, including the one referenced in the article.

I am not sure which reviews you have seen or what you have heard. But I did not find any problem with Udemy as a platform – I myself have taken a few courses.

You can also read my Udemy review..

    Good luck.

  5. I purchased the Udemy package by Ravi for the practice questions only, and so far, am not impressed with teh questions. They make me wonder if they are actually helping/hurting my study prep. I can’t imagine many of the questions on the exam are worded the way these are, but what do I know.

Anyways, will continue to try to use the questions but will drop it if my prep doesn’t improve.

  6. I am looking at writing my exam this Tuesday, 23 May 2017. Are the sample questions linked above still relevant to today’s exams or is it better to purchase new moch exams from the likes of PM Exam Simulator even though they are quite expensive :(
